Lesson 1: Two-Stamp Problem
The Lesson
This lesson uses a Two-Stamp Problem to illustrate the Principle of Mathematical Induction. We:
- define what is meant by a predicate
- emphasize the difference between "some value of n" and "all values of n"
- explain the importance of both the base case and the induction step for a successful mathematical induction argument
- illustrate what can go wrong if you skip either the base case or the induction step
